Synchronization Storage Limit

Answered

We have a SharePoint Document library that is around 500GB in size. With limited local hard drive space on client Mac's, how do we go about not running out of hard drive space? Does the Engage "Sync" actually download and store a copy of the files on the local hard drive? Is it possible to not download the files locally, but rather use Engage just for accessing SharePoint files directly (ex. like a mapped drive to a file server)?

Dear Brian,

Mac Briefcase app does download and store a copy of files on the local hard drive. Now there are three ways in which we can ensure that the users don't run out of space when they sync down the Sharepoint libraries:

  1. Push only the libraries that are required and not the entire site when pinning locations to streams.
  2. If users adding large sites locally on the Briefcase App is a concern, applying a 'Control Group' policy (on the console) would prevent the users from adding anything locally and access only those libraries that have been pushed down from the console.
  3. Applying a global storage limit policy on the console allows the admin to prescribe a limit on the quantity (mb/gb) of files that the end user can sync down in addition to what has been pushed down from the console. in other words global storage limit applies only to those sites/libraries/folders which the users want to add locally and not to those that have been pushed from the Colligo console. The Global Storage limit is a new feature which will be in the next release of Mac Briefcase app scheduled for next month.
i hope this information helps, please let us know if you have any further questions.
